| Has any label re-issued the hot Hollywood hillbilly-style early recordings of this fantastic musician (full of great non-pedal steel, I might add)? Occasional Wade Ray cuts turn up on V/A anthology collections and I want more! |

Russ, you are right about the CD you noted.
I was playing it today in my car, I've had it for a couple years. If you like Wade Ray,
you'll love it. Some of his best. He also used to be on the old Ernest Tubb TV show, singing and playing fiddle. I got to see him in person just once in the mid 1960s. I first heard him on WLS radio in the late 40s. Really a great performer, enjoy.

When talking about Wade Ray someone always mentions his great recording of "If I Had the Heart of a Clown". My personal favorite was an old 78rpm record my dad had of Wade singing "Rosetta". I wore that thing out when I was a kid.

Yes, Rosetta is great. It is on this CD.
When I saw him live, I remember he sang Bill Bailey Please Come Home and Won't you Ride
in my Little Red Wagon, among others. And, Wade could ride that fiddle. He may have been a Country Western performer, but he had a jazz musician soul. Just great. Al |

| I knew Wade in So Cal in 50's-60's and I loved his playing and singing! Such drive! I've seen him and Jimmy Bryant, both on fiddle, and milking those notes for all they could get. I hope I never forget the jams out in the Valley with those two!( J.B. always claimed to be a fiddle player and not a guitar player.) regards, fred |

By the way, Herby Wallace has a great video of him playing with Wade Ray at the ISGC in teh mid-80's, I believe. I think Russ Wever is on bass and the whole set really cooks. Pappy Wade is great; he was already getting on in years, so sat down thru the whole set but still played with great fire and pleasure. And Herby's no slouch either! Highly recommended and available from Herby directly or, I believe, from Scotty too.

| I might add here that the link provided by Russ Wever is worth a click. It's to a place called Spindrift Records of New Jersey and in reviewing their catalog, I can see they have all the difficult to get import Hillbilly and Western Swing CD's I've been looking for. Darn you, Russ! |
