A couple of years ago I was doing a house gig when Daryle and his band came in. We kept asking if they wanted to set in and do a few. Well after an hour or two of drinking they decieded to get up and man what a singer and band. They were all great guys and we stayed on stage for 3 hours doing Johnny Paycheck and George Jones songs.I have to admit I didn't know who he was when he came in but he is definitly country and I like that.

daymon,
I agree Mike is superb on Daryle's new cd! He is out front and his tone is chrystal clear. He has chops to die for! Theresa
Gotta love the traditional stuff

Some undisputable musical rules....

1) Studio players don't play with any feeling.
2) Guys who play fast with chops aren't/don't/can't play with feeling.
3) Guys who play slow "with feeling" all of the time don't have any chops.
4) Guys who use distortion and/or effects all of the time need it to hide their flaws.
5) "It's only country; it's not that hard."
6) (Fill in the blank) ________ is the greatest instrument in the world.
7) You'll never get by with less than 100 watts.
Cool It's got to be loud.

I haven't heard Daryls' album, but if it's traditional country I'm really tempted to take a chance on it. I went out a couple of weeks ago and picked up the CD of "Together Again/My Heart Skips a Beat". WOW!!!!! It had really been about 20 years since I had heard it, and it's been like a total breath of fresh air. Highly recommended.

I heard the title cut "Why I Sing This Way" twice today on Top 40 radio.

It is a great tune you HAVE to hear it. Great Hook...

The songs tells of a boy who was beat by his mother with a George Jones Album when a child. That's why he sings this way (in a low possum TWANG)

Enjoy!

Daymon:

Correction to your previous post regarding the fiddle player on Daryle's new CD.

Danny Parks provided the outstanding ACOUSTIC GUITAR on the tracks whild JOE CAVERLEE is playing FIDDLE.

Giving Credit where Credit is Due -

THIS ALBUM IN MY OPINION IS A MUST HAVE FOR ANY CLASSIC COUNTRY MUSIC FAN.

ASKING YOURSELF CAN IT BE THAT GOOD? THE ANSWER IS Y E S !!

IF YOU DON'T CARE FOR THIS - NOTHING WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY IN THIS WORLD OF COUNTRY MUSIC!!

THANKS Daryle for doing this album - they are all keepers!

Well, I had a whole bunch of things to say about this album, but you beat me to it. About all I can add is it's great to hear a singer sing with feeling and a steel player that plays with feeling. My God,it's been a long time. In my book right now Mike Johnson is #1

Merle Haggard once explained this about his band: "They're all great musicians and they can all play. The just don't know when they're gonna get to play".

I think that's the case with the great steel players doing Nashville session work today. I know Paul "gets" to play on the Alan Jackson records, and perhaps to a lesser extent on George Strait sessions. Certainly, no lack of feeling and emotion there.

It seems to be a matter of production and the mix. That's what Daymon is getting at.
