This sounds like a great mix for everyone. No need for anyone to be mad at this variety, something for all.How can you go wrong with Jeannie and Dave ,Brad and ole Possum for the straight country folk and Vasser an Trisha for the new stuff.Worth watching.

Joe.
I'm happy with the lineup with the exception of Vasser. But I've only seen him once before, when Kathy, and I went to the Opry. So, I'll check him out this Sat. and see if my opinion will change any.

I'd take Charlie and Ira Louvin over any of the acts mentioned. In 1960 their great harmony was heard coming out of W W V A at 50,000 watts. It's a shame that the two brothers' accomplishments ended in
1965. The two part harmony that was
their trademark, is still one of the most pleasing sounds to be heard.

Mike,

Actually, I haven't missed any of
the shows that have been presented.
I am in reality one of the truest country fans you'll find here in the northeast part of the country. I've been a faithful follower since country music was born. I have a large collection of non-middle-of the-road country music recordings to pull out when things get too far to the left of what pleases me. Thank you for your comment. I'll be
tuned in to C M T on Saturday evening.

Hey Michael,
They re-broadcast the show at 11:AM EST on Sunday morning so it'll probably be 10:AM your time.

retcop88,

I attended two of the best shows that George Jones (possum), and Jean Shepard had put together years ago. George's show was in the Troy Armory, in Troy, N.Y., in the early sixties '62-'63. Buck Owens was there with his uniformed band also.
They wore bright outfits, with sharp coloration. All of the band members wore matching garb, with the exception of the two band leaders. Buck and George wore separate colors. Their performances were presented one after the other. I enjoyed hearing their big hits of that time period. Jean was in a rare mood during a performance in the Mahaiwe Theater,in Great Barrington, Ma. in the early seventies. The show was sponsored by the G. B. Police Dept. Jean lectured the attendees, prompting them to turn on to country music in no uncertain terms. She said, "call your radio stations, and tell them what you want to hear." She pointed out that we the listeners have the power to change things. I've kept the memory of her words through the years. I have several of her albums in my collection. If a duet could
produce the sounds of Charlie and the late Ira Louvin, to any reasonable degree, I would be the first in line to obtain a copy of the music. The country music of today, is gradually moving further away from the acoustic sounds that once captured the hearts of so many.

Well, sorting through tonights performances, most were great, others not.
Jean Shepard could sing "Mary Had A Little Lamb" and make it a hit. she is a great performer and Dave Robbins knocked me down with that great tone and playing.
Brad Paisley is also a great performer and a COUNTRY singer. Randle Currie is a monster player and sounded great with some great TV shots tonight.
Phil Vasser? NO STEEL, NO DEAL
Trisha didn't have steel either. She could trade in about 35 extra pounds for a steel player and still come out ahead. She can sing good though unlike Fill Vascular.
George Jones is still George Jones. I think he'd been to Tootsie's but he is still great and so was Tom Killens.
That's my insight into it and I'm stickin with it.

......By the way, there was some good accidental shots of Teresa White filming tonight. Teresa works her ass off carrying that 40 pound camera around getting those great shots of the musicians and should be commended for it. Great job Teresa!

Sad to say my older twin brother didn't get any air time tonight so maybe next week. It did look as if he had a Sho~Bud sitting back behind the fence.

I was going back and forth between The Opry and Cops...Saw the great Jean Shepard and Brad Paisley..great picker and singer..really liked his second song...Possum was good...but the other two acts could've stayed home. But what I was hoping to see and may have missed would have been the "amazing " and "incredible"( two words she uses every week)Katie(the Opry only means a paycheck to me)cook asking the Possum what the Opry means to him....so did she or didn't she ..if she did that must have been hilarious!!Would sure like to see Eddie Stubbs or Keith Bilbrey host the show..they know a lot more about country than she will ever know!!!

I will agree Vasser was the weak point.
I also noticed Jean's choice of material choosong
Seven Lonely Day's an old hit of Patsy
Cline.

George Jones still makes you take notice.

Worth watching the reruns

Well, I said I was going to watch Vasser one more time before making my final decision. I am now more convinced than ever, that the man does not belong In the country Genre catagory!! Mr Acuff is not a happy camper as he watches from his heavenly home!!
Otherwise the show was enjoyable. Kate needs to go to work for MTV, and they need to get someone to host who at least is a part of, or is educated in the field of country music.
IMHO

Leigh,
With all due respect Mr. Acuff doesn't know whats going on now. Phil sang better walking around the stage than most standing still Theresa

I thought the show was good to decent. My thoughts on Mr. Vasser are the same as for Jo Dee Messina and some of the other singers/dancers. I am not saying that they cannot sing...not at all. I believe that they really are good vocalists. Somewhere, though, they need to make a decision...are they singers or are they dancers. When a singer is out of breath from bumping and grinding around the stage, so much so that they cannot get their breath and hit the proper notes, I feel that listeners are being shortchanged. When I go to a concert, I am going to hear the music. The fireworks, dancing, and other activities on the stage are secondary...very secondary. Along the same line, if an artist can't cut it vocally and they are trying to cover up their shortcomings with camoflauge, time to find a new line of work. Just my humble opinion...Pat

Porter Wagoner puts on a better show than Fill Vascular and Porter hasn't hit the same note twice in one song in years but then, I don't know anything about music!

Jeff! How can a guy play two steels at the same time? I'm, of course referring to the word Mullens! "a word made famous by many a forumite!" actually, I brought my Mullens to the gig last nite, but only played one!

I stand by my statement Phil sang better walking the stage than most. Porter can't hold a note to Phil, never could! Of course, this is my opinion. Theresa
