Barry and Holly Tashian were up this way performing on the coffee house circuit recently.
For those who don't know, Barry worked with EmmyLou Harris as a member of the Hot Band and sang all the nice close harmonies.
His songs are delivered with Everly Bros. like style and they just beg for dobro or steel accompaniament!
They live in Tennessee somewhere...anyone ever see them perform down there?

Yes I know the Tashians, I grew up in the same town as Barry, he is a great singer and monster guitar player, always was , even when he was a real young kid. I played Steel with Holly's band for a while around '76 up in Westport Ct.I havnen't seen them in years but have kept up with what they were up to. I mention Barry and Holly on my website bio. IF you see them tell them hey for me and that I am still a fan.

Yes , Barry's band , The Remains, toured with the Beatles on that last tour. He played Shea Stadium and all of the other large venues across the US with the Beatles and hung out with them as well. Not to shabby of a gig I would say ! He also did the Ed Sullivan show ...These guys were clearly the envy of all of us out of Westport Ct. for years and years and years...
When I was about 11 or 12 I would sneak into my sisters Jr.High dances and watch Barry play. He was the coolest I had ever seen in my young life !!

Yes I've seen them play many times. Very enjoyable. Barry was in an early version of the Flying Burrito Bros. The "Barry and the Remains" record was reissued on CD, and has a great early sixties garage-rock vibe.
I don't know why were not more well known.

Joel ,the story around town after the Remains record and tour was that it internally imploded. My good friend in Ct stays in contact with Barry and gigs with the Remains original drummer now and again, Chip Domiani, who lives on Long Island I believe. The Remains have gotten together for a few single gigs recently which I am sure would have been great and I also was told they were offered a European tour as well.
Barry was one of my earliest influences to play guitar. He was clearly a rockin' young kid ! He was always different than the rest of us, we were trying to be musicians, he was one .

Here's Barry's bio from the Remains website: http://www.tashian.com/remains/

Barry Tashian is a native of Westport, CT, and has been playing music since the age of 12, when he formed his first neighborhood band. At Boston University, Barry formed The Remains, a hard-driving rock band. Signed to Colombia Records, The Remains had several Boston-area hit singles. After relocating to New York City, Barry and The Remains appeared in the Ed Sullivan Show and Hullaballoo.

It was in August of 1966 that Barry's band was booked to travel with The Beatles on their 14 city, 18 day North American tour. The Remains opened 19 shows for the Fab Four in stadiums and amphitheaters from coast to coast. This August marks the 30th anniversary of that tour.

Since the late 60's, Tashian's interests have been focused on country music. He was a founding member of the original Flying Burrito Brothers. While recording with Gram Parsons in the 1970's, Barry met Emmylou Harris, who later invited him to join her Hot Band. Barry toured and recorded with Harris as a guitarist and duet singer throughout the 1980's.

In the 90's, Barry and his wife Holly formed the duet team of Barry and Holly Tashian. They have released two critically acclaimed albums on Rounder Records. Their Straw Into Gold album won the 1994 NAIRD Country Album of the Year Award. Barry & Holly Tashian now tour worldwide.

As songwriters, Barry and Holly's songs have been recorded by Ty England, Daniel O'Donnell, The Nashville Bluegrass Band, Jody Stecher and Kate Brislin, and Roland White.

Residing in Nashville, TN, Barry and Holly Tashian have two sons, Daniel and Carl. Carl is studying computer engineering in college and Daniel is a singer/songwriter on Elektra Records.

The Remains were one helluva a band. N.D. Smart played drums on the Beatles tour, and was a member of the International Submarine Band with Gram Parsons, so Tashian's connection to GP, Emmylou and the Hot Band goes back a ways, even before he helped found the FBB with GP. That second link that Joel posted is good. The first album that shows up there is a killer comp, and well worth having if you can find it.
Good thread here about a great band that has been greatly overlooked
