I LOVE Trace Adkins' voice! And you'll hear some fine guitar playing from Dan Drilling with the 'Cajuneers (Cajun Country)

I think "Trace" is one of the best of the new singers. I love his voice (makes me think of "Ed Bruce"), but I don't think they have really captured his voice on record yet. The man has an unbeleiveable range!

"Dan Drilling" is a great guitar player that I had the priviledge of pickin' with for a number of years here at a local club.Good picker, good guy, just don't throw him two or three shuffles in a row!!!! Anybody who can play "cajun guitar" gets my vote! Dan is all original, no copy cat.
Also don't forget Mat McGee on bass. Great player.

I often wondered who played the bass for JCN.
You are right- he is equally as talented as Dan.

Hi Deana, Thanks for your kind words last week. I'm STILL moving but come Sunday - no more internet! I'll miss my out of state pen pals, but I think that the 'chicken soup for the soul' forwards, the jokes and 'surfing' wastes too much time. Enjoy the Opry this week! (I'll be listening on the Radio)

Loren,
Again- Happy Trails.
Since you are in Nashville, and I'm assuming you aren't moving too far away, my family is going to be doing the Midnight Jamboree sometime in the near future. (Got a call last week, just still haven't decided on a date yet) So be looking on the schedule and come over and meet us. We are simply entitled the Marvin and Deana Clark Family.
(Sorry to get off topic)

Jim,
Yes, unless the date coincides with one of his steel shows, Mike will be there. And even if it does, I think I might be able to twist his arm a bit.

George IV couldn't sing on key tonight but he's a great singer when he can. Tommy carried him high. Trace Adkins was great with a lot of in your face steel. I was not impressed with Clay Walker. Jimmy C always jumps because I like Cajun music. Brooks & Dunn were good and had good steel behind them. It was just not an exciting night at the Opry.

It would be nice to hear from the steelplayers that backed Clay,Trace and Brooks & Dunn. I didn't recognize any of them.
Somehow, I think they are happy doing what they do! They all sounded clear, loud, and just played great! Great Job!

Mr. Cole, Theresa is right in her statement that all the players had in your face steel last night. I'm not sure what you heard but what I heard was pure, clear, clean and honest steel guitar playing last night. The only advise I can offer you is to either change the batteries in your hearing aids or just change channels. You were totally wrong in your assumption of last night's performance.

DISCLAIMER: As I am more accustom to disagreeing with Theresa than agreeing, it just goes to show that everyone is right some of the time and no one is right all the time, except me!!!!!

B,
The steelplayers you heard last night did a great job playing it like Paul & Bruce did on their records. I probably left out Sonny, Sorry!

Clay walkers band was greatI especially like the out-throw for the first song. Old George Hamilton the fourth sure doen't sing with any voice control anymore. Nice guy but not an Opry strong point. If Trace Atkins needs some better song material for that powerful voice. I can see where Brooks and Dunn can draw a good young audience.Jimmy C'S "You can Kiss my Ashley"cute song but he should save that stuff for the Barrooms.Once again JMHGO

The steel player for Trace Atkins is Randy Hess, a very good friend and a great steel player. I think he did a very good job last night on the Opry. The camera person did a good job of showing the steel players. A good night for steeling.

Just watched the tape.
Excellent night for Steelin!

Who's the guy with Brooks and Dunn?
If you don't like what he did on "Neon Moon" then you don't like what Paul did on the recording. It was covered perfectly!

The boys (and Camera-Person ) should be proud.

I do confess, that while one of the visiting steel players was playing,I got on the phone and ask one of my steel player buddies if my hearing was ok as I thought the steel man had a string or pedal out of tune.

He replied, you are right on,he is out of tune.

It seemed to be just a one string or one pedal problem as it just seemed to occur only occasionaly during the song.

Unfortunately when this happens it seems that the listeners will often hear it before the player.Even if the player does hear it during his ride, what can he do in the middle of a ride except try to dodge the bullet and hope he can dodge the pull that is out of tune.

Haven't we all been there? Well maybe not on the Opry.

You don't suppose the ghosts of Hal, Sonny and Weldon might have returned to the Opry and been up to some of their old tricks do you do you?

Give them(players) a break.Or better, let me trade places with one of them.Boy,that got voted down in a hurry.

"I sure would hate to have you hear real steel playing"

I think I know "real steel playing".

I didn't see the Opry live on TV because I was front row Saturday night at another show.

A few "real steelers" were there.
(Hal R, John H, David S, Don H, Joe W, and more). There were mistakes, it's a human condition.

If a player get torn apart in a Worldwide Forum like this, and remember your comments are archived and searchable forever, I understand why some of the greats refuse to play Major Shows.

B,
I know we agree to disagree, we are friends To say the steelplayers with the acts mentioned didn't do a great job is bogus! They got the job with those artist, because they know how to play it like it was recorded! They are doing a great job They have jobs playing infront of thousands of people....Steelguitar is being heard! Theresa
