This almost seems like a scam. Check it out here. Could be seriously cool if it's for real.

Interesting -- it's probably a system that converts sound to digital, then transmits it to a digital reciever via DSL or something similar.

What's really interesting is that they don't say how much it COSTS!

I've often thought how cool it would be if I could rehearse my band over the internet...

Well, it's in the NAMM report in KEYBOARD and it says $399 list. Let's not forget the phone bills!!! You know, the phone companies should give these away.

Even if it's capable of quality audio through the phone lines, I'm a little dubious of the "real time" aspect. Even with a cable modem, I run into "buffering breaks" when downloading, or listening to streaming audio files on the net. And, at $400 apeice, it'll cost a 5-piece group a couple of grand to "do their thing in absentia", (plus the phone bill, as was already mentioned).

I believe I'll give this one a while before I plunk down my green!

I might be wrong but, this product seems like a gimmic that could be used for novel effect and could be good for trading ideas, musically but, not whole sessions. If you can't get together in person to jam/rehearse, I don't think it would ever be a substantive or productive session. I say, call up your musical buds, figure out a place to jam/rehearse and do it. You'll probably be better off and you'll save a chunk o' change. 'Just my $0.02....

Keep on pickin'!

I also read various reports from/about the demo of this thing at NAMM. I emailed Ms Ford and explained our needs. Requested all available info and suggested she check out the Forum and post a response. We'll see.

Someone had mentioned PalTalk a while back and then another suggested Yahoo had voice/audio chat.

I got into the PalTalk thing and enjoy one Aussie 'room' a whole lot. Although it's all Austrailian artists, the music is really great! The quality and style seems to me to be just what many on the Forum have been asking for. Not that there is that much steel in the line up there, either.

The audio quality may not be good enough for serious rehearsing, though. --Everett

Well, I just got a response to my emailed request for info. Sounds to me that, if it is NOT a scam, we should still be wary of dealing with a company that is unable to provide better/more complete data. Below is the response from Phone-Jam:

"Hello Everett,

Thank you so much for your interest in our product. At this
time we do not have exact pricing information or any
additional specs that we can send you.

We anticipate to have more information regarding a price and
ordering info. within the next 90 days.

Please keep in touch and we will forward that to you after we
obtain our production schedule.

Thank you.

Kindest regards,
Cindy"
