The local store has a new Gibson Hound Dog squareneck dobro. I think it's a laminate instrument. Are these a good instrument ? I don't know much about them. I'm still plunking along on my Regal until something better comes along. Does anyone one have an opinion to share on this guitar ?

thanks

I played one of these recently while in St. Louis and was pleasantly surprised at the tone and quality of construction. It held up well against the other high end resophonics in the store (Tennessean, Dobro®, and National).
I think they're an attempt by Gibson to sell a mid-range instrument, priced between the rest of the Dobro® line and other, lower end instruments.
I think for around $800 USD you're getting a pretty good deal. My biggest complaint with the one I played is the way it looks. I think they look ugly.

Thanks for your feedback on the guitar Brad , I'm going to the store to play it. I think it may have a built in pickup.

I just notice in an ads for this instrument that it has no "soundwell" like most other dobros do. If it is open on the inside like an acoustic guitar I'm guessing it has a less pronounced midrange response and probably a better bass response than the dobro with a soundwell. Anybody know if this in fact the difference in the two designs ?
