I received my copy of the new Dale Watson DVD, Live - For Fans Only. Really a nice DVD. A lot of newer material performed by Dale and His Lonestars. Ricky does a wonderful job, but can't decide if he does a better job at playing steel or mugging for the camera. I also wonder if the producer is a steel player. A lot of nice close-ups of Ricky's hand work.

The show lacks the theatrics of a Garth concert. No flash pots, jumping from speakers or swinging on ropes. That would be an interesting site. All of the Lonestars enter the stage by swinging ropes. The film portrays the intimate setting of the show. The only thing it is missing is Dale's banter with the close audience. I would assume most of this ended up on the cutting room floor. Dale's connection with the close audience is part of what makes Dale's show's so fun.

All of the material sounds great. A lot of newer material, but the band is looser and looks more comfortable when Dale does some of his older material.

I highly recommned this DVD.

Steve,

Is this DVD in NTSC (U.S.) format?
On the label's website it describes it as a PAL (Europe) format DVD.

The store that I got the DVD from posts it on Ebay. It is a store in the Netherlands. I've emailed them and was able to order various import items. So far their Ebay price has been cheaper than other on-line outlets. Their shipping is very quick. I got mine within a week. They take credit cards and/or paypal.

The format is "all Regions", so I had no problem playing it on my new US DVD player. The picture quality and sound is wonderful.
