I have done many searches on this site on older jazz/swing albums and see them listed but I don't know where to order them or how to get them. I am interested in transcribing solos. I am looking for morrell, terry, and murphy stuff... Bebop single note stuff especially, the more hot-dog the better. If somewhere can tell me where to get this stuff, that would be killer. I'd rather have cd's than cassettes if possible. No-peddlers only...I play pedal too but I like my jazz lines and phrasing with the bar only, leave the pedals for the chords. Tom Morrell's dobro work ... straight major tuning GBDGBD is over the top (apart from his great non pedal electric work). Check out "Jugglin' Cats"

Bob H... no I haven't checked him out. Does he have a regular gig in nyc? Does he play bottleneck slide on a standard guitar or lap/console steel? |

Got the cd's. I dig it and I respect it. Any Modern Jazz Harmony? Dissonance anyone? No cheese please....I want the real thing. It's been done on other instuments...I hope someones with me here. It takes spicier tunings, get away from the 1357 voicings and throw some tension in there... [This message was edited by James Winwood on 11 September 2003 at 12:46 PM.] |

James,
You might try some of Eddie Alkire's stuff. He had his own strange tuning for a non pedal 10 string that he developed in the 1930's. He was an amazing player and covered the whole map of musical expressions. I'm sure he would have done some bee bop and other jazzy stuff. I have three CD's of his one is entitled Jazz Steel Guitar but it's mostly standards. Do some searches for him. He was a very prolific recording artist. He passed away in 1982 or so.
