Jim Lauderdale at Opry!!

I had the privelege to be in ARKansas last Sat night. I picked up the Grand Ole Opry that night.

We flew in for Grandma's funeral in Hope(wife's side of the family). Excuse me, Grandmother was 98.

Got to listen to some good stuff. Then I had to get dressed to go to viewing.

We got back to motel at 30 minutes before end of 'Opry. Tuned in and heard Jim Lauderdale. Was Tommy playin' steel? Whoever it was smokes! Good renditions! I am listening to his latest album all the time.

What about his sold out gig on Sun night with George Jones? Did anyone see that?

Saw him in PHX about 2 mths ago with just a guitar player. Also saw him opening for Nick Lowe. Played his heart out all by himself!!!!

Speaking of Jim Lauderdale.If you are in Nashvill and have the time.Check out the Tammy Wynette story,musical play, at the Rymn autitoriom.
Jim Lauderdale is playing the part of George Jones.It is a play that you will really injoy and Jim does a great job singing like Jones.Lot's of laughter and country music.
The two ladys that play Tammy Wynette,do a superjob singing also.

I believe that show is closed after last week. Jim Lauderdale also is a pretty good song writer also with many credits including some earlier George Strait hits. (King of Broken Hearts,where the sidewalk ends,stay out of my arms).That same segment had Ray Pillow doing only one song and that always amazes me why he does not get more spots. He always compliments the band with his material and visa-versa.

Jim has a pretty deep musical theatre background. He was featured in musical "Pump Boys and Dinettes" many years ago. I believe that Shawn Colvin was in the same cast. I had the privelage of playing with Jim at the Wiltern, opening for Lucinda Williams. He is truly the 'missing link' between Gram Parsons and George Jones.
