Jurgen Koop and I were watching some old Armed Forces Recruiting videos today, and there was Tater and the Country Boys... E, Spider, and Howard, with Joel Price on bass guitar. The question came up: Whatever became of Howard Rhoten? There was another video where he was playing solo lead guitar with Faron.

I dunno what happened to Howard Rhoten, but I do know what happened to Ron Howard, aka "Opie" of the Andy Griffith show. He grew up to be a very successful movie director. Hope this is helpful, Herb.
Your friend,
Jim

I might add that, while hunting for Howard Rhoten, I came across the fact that E. Howard Hunt, notorious for his Watergate/CIA intrigues, is no longer living.

That would be for your information, Jim.

Meanwhile, back at the home office... I'm still wondering, though this looks like it could be the beginning of a fun thread.

You're welcome. (After all, up until now, it did seem a bit "dry", don't you think?)

So, speaking of Howard Rhoten...Jim, how was Holland? I'm in New England taking a vacation before the Mass Bash.

Hi Herb. Buddy probably could tell you. He, Howard, and Spider were all with Jimmy Dickens at one time. Come to one of our Southeast Texas Steel Guitar Club meetings. 4th Sunday each month. See you down the road, Jody.

Yeah, Buddy could probably tell me, but he left on Monday for a 3-week tour of Canada with the EvBros., and I bet someone out here knows anyway. In these videos, Buddy had the same smile and moves when he was 18 that he has now. It's eerie.

Also saw a video of Lloyd Green playing a Bigsby with Faron, and Shorty Lavender on fiddle. Lloyd was SOOOOOO young!

I was in Gene Jones site the other evening and I caught myself thinking: Did Bobby Daren ever play steel guitar. Maybe that was before Mac The Knife......

Regards, Paul

Herb, when i was with the Jimmy Dickens show in the 50's, we had Spider Wilson and Howard Roten on twin guitars and had a pretty good band for the times! On a lot of the tunes I had the 5th.part and it was a workout believe me!! Don't know what Howard is doing now---
