I just got a Fluger Dobro. How should I tune
this 8 string. I plan on trying to play a
little Blue Grass/ Country/Gospel with the Blue grass crowd. I have looked @E-9 & E-6
& B-11 Tunnings. Should I stay with open G &
How do I tune up with 8 Strings ??
This Fluger Dobro is a real beauty, just came in today. Thanks for any info: |

Aloha Autry -
Congrats on the purchase. This week was the first time I'd heard of Fluger guitars.
Personally, I would tune it to A6: E-C#-A-F#-E-C#-A-G
The G gives a nice 7th at the bottom.
By the way, would you mind measuring and sharing with us, the distance between the strings at the nut and the bridge?
Also, what is the scale length?
Thanks!

Autry,
I tune my 8 string Beniot to G6. This is how Carrol Benoit builds them. Lo to hi EGBDEGBD. Sometimes I tune the low E down to D. Sometimes I pull both E's up to F for a blues/rock 7th.
Gary Morse (forumite) has a great CD available on the forum using a 7 string tuned GBDEGBD. Resophonic Rodeo.
I am no expert on string tension and pressure on the bridge/cone but I know it is an issue.
Hope this helped.

Here's a picture of Bobbe Seymour holding a Fluger resophonic. Duane Marrs has some information on his web site as well.
