What It Is - who's the guitar player?

The Dire Straits song "What It Is" - who's the guitar player? What kind of guitar & amp does he use?

Is it Mark Knopfler? I assume it's Knopfler singing?

Mark Knopfler is the guitarist. His playing is legendary. He uses every brand of guitar and every type of amplification. It is his subjective need that dictates what guitar and amp he chooses per song. I wish I could tell you exactly what was used.

Many thanks Paul. I kind of thought the answer might be along those lines.

My question arose because I often hear this song played on a PA system in a place I go almost daily - every time I hear it, I stop and let it fill me. The guitar line, phrasing, relaxed skill, and Tone really connect with me, and make the song IMHO.
