Fact: Country music traditionally accounted for 16.7% of the total market sales. The latest market earnings report country music now occupies 10.6%. A 30% decline. What started out as an attempt for a larger maket share has turned into a nightmare and they refuse to admit it.

Fact:..Mr Benson, chairman of CMA admits to "minor" problems and feels the economic turn down will reverse that trend.....hello? what planet does this guy live on?

Fact:...The porported reasoning behind the current CMA thinking is that country music is listened to mostly by "beer guzzling wife beating rednecks" Oh really? That infers that listeners of other music venues don't. Better check out the Rap and Rock scenes. I personally resent the labeling as I'm sure most of my fellow formites do.

Fact: country music is, has always been and will always be about life, it's struggles and victories. Todays new country is about????????

Fact: the Oldsmobile slogan "this is not your father's olds" did not capture a significant part of the market that they had hoped for. The ploy has since been dropped.

What I understand of the corporate world, heads roll when profits go down. because of inept mangement. This Benson is still in charge and planning new avenues for force feeding the public.

NOW HEAR THIS. ....... I have a solutution for CMA's current dilemma. Go back to square one and produce real country music again send the idots (along with Benson) away and watch profits and sales soar thirty percent......Duh! George, Randy, Alan, Brad ,Travis and countless others are alive and well and willing., Hey maybe they'll hire me. Nah too simple.

I suspect some of the singers mentioned are doing as good as they did 10 years ago, some the same and some not as good.

Then there's "Brad", who is a newcomer. He's hot right now, but personally I'm tired of his soupy love songs that are getting air play. When is he going to do more "country" that he is supposed to be the savior of??

Beer drinkin' cheat'n fighti'n truck drivin', who really cares?It doesn't matter as long as there is a lot of predominate STEEL GUITAR! I don't care if it aint country, as long as there's a lot of steel! As a matter of fact, country isn't country ,or even music, if theres no steel!
Some of the best music I ever heard wasn't country,but it sure had great steel in it, like Ray Charles,volcanic action, Elton John,
even my recording with Johnny Rivers and Judas Priest.Steel guitar makes the music good ,not the title "country".Think about this troops! Maurice is GREAT! He is not the least bit country.But he IS steel guitar at its zenith!

This is because traditionally, Country songs express the woes of the common man. These kinds of songs are not popular now. How many years are you going back for this information? 15? 20?
