Following the BBC survey mentioned on another thread, I obtained a copy of Steve Earle & The Dukes 'Exit 0' CD and it is very good.

Can anyone recommend which is the best all round Steve Earle CD to get as there are 22 listed on amazons web site

It really depends what you want, do you want bluegrassy Steve, roots rockin' Steve, neo-rockabilly Steve or alterna-country Steve?

Personally I love his work with the Del McCoury band, it depends if you like Steve in a more bluegrass type setting.

Just a few years back, he put out an album called Train A-Comin'. All acoustic, featuring among other great players, Norman Blake. Absolutely fantastic.

One of my favorite hits by Johnny Lee was "Could Have Heard a Heart Break," which, I understand, was written by Steve Earle. Anyone know if that's true?

Herbster I believe the credit is Earle/Sherrill, which might be Billy Sherrill, but I'm sure it's Steve Earle's song.
Might be a good story behind that one.

Train A-Comin'... yes that is a great album, okay now it's been mentioned, that's the one I would recommend.
