Hello. A friend directed me to this cool site because he felt that there were like-minded people with an interest in country rock. I noticed the Eagles/Poco discussion and thought I would let everyone know about my latest book entitled "Desperados: The Roots of Country Rock" to be released in March by Cooper Square Press (New York), distributed by the National Book Netwoork. The ISBN # is 0-8154-1065-4. Not everyone browses bookstore shelves so I thought I would let people know about it here.

Here's what's been said about Desperados by some country rock experts:

"Country rock in the 1960s and early '70s, was a music bigger than its name: full of blues, gospel, punky-Beatle songcraft and California optimism. John Einarson's Desperados is the first serious study of a much misunderstood, uniquely American pop revolt and its young electric frontiersmen."
-David Fricke, Rolling Stone

"A skillfully woven story of California's country rock and the people who played a part in its beginning. I learned a lot reading John's book."
- Rusty Young, Poco

"At last a work that names the real people who built the foundation of country rock, not just the celebrities. Many people have helped give to the business that has become so popular. They finally get credit here."
-Randy Meisner, founding member of Poco and the Eagles

"A good case study of an interesting period in the ever-changing West Coast musical landscape. This book brought back wonderful and sometimes sad memories of the last thirty years, as well as recollections of some dearly missed compatriots."
- Chris Hillman, founding member of the Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers and Desert Rose Band

The book chronicles the evolution of country rock circa 1963 to 73 and all the pioneers who helped integrate country rock and the groups they spawned. Over 60 interviews were conducted for the book including several pedal steel guitar greats like Sneaky Pete Kleinow, Rusty Young, Tom Brumley and Al Perkins.

The book may settle once and for all the kinship between Poco and the Eagles (or foster even more discussion). One of my earlier books dealt with the Buffalo Springfield and discussed their dabbling in country rock.

Ask your local bookstore to order Desperados in. Cheers, JE

Hi John and welcome to the Steel Guitar Forum;

Looking forward to your latest book

Folks, check out John's books on Buffalo Springfield (w/Richie Furay), and of course Canada's - no wait, the World's for that matter- greatest rock band, The Guess Who

John, keep in mind Wayne Link's Mid-Canada Pedal Party in April at the old Airliner (now the HoJo) in Winnipeg - come on out and meet some of us pickin' prairie dogs

Hey John,

Great to have you aboard!

Are they going to print any more "For What It's Worth" books? It's a must read for any fan.

John, welcome to the Steel Guitar Forum, but don't be bashful, tell us a little about yourself...and tell us a little of the inside stories on the research for your books...I would find that immensely interesting, if you don't mind...
