I guess they might have had a problem printing Chadwick Von Brochenhiemerwitz on the label.

Charlie has ten children. I attended a double wedding when two of his daughters were married at the same service. He is very involved in the Masons.
Has a high ranking position in that organization. Lives here in Hendersonville, Tn. |

It was a good night. I always enjoy Charlie Walker, Sonja Isaacs was great and she sang good too and what can be said about Merle Haggard that hasn't been said for the last 35 years? He's a legend and he's great. Also, Norm was playing his Emmons tonight instead of the GFI and Tommy was loud, clean and clear tonight. My wife teared up on Chad Brock's song. He did great. Good show tonight! |

I swear, Tommy White tears off some stuff that, if you have a mouthful of beer, will make you spray it out (believe me, I know). I laughed out loud on Cherokee Maid with sheer surprise and delight--he always surprises me with something other than what I am expecting.
And that was Tom Mortensen, if I'm not mistaken, with Chad Brock. Sounded excellent. Top-notch.[This message was edited by Jon Light on 04 November 2000 at 06:23 PM.] |

I didn't see the advanced notice here... I just happened to turn it on, figuring I'd head up to the computer and listen with one ear. Well, seeing Hag on Opry Backstage changed that plan.
I thought Chad Brock's song was a good one, and Tommy was great on the turn in Cherokee Maiden. That blue Derby looks real good on TW.
I was hoping Merle would do "If Only I Could Fly", but I understand why he wanted to do "Think About a Lullaby".
I got the distinct impression that Merle cast an absentee ballot for Buchannan. He's obviously still interested in politics as he mentioned the election twice.
I had to smile (and cheer) at the standing-o.

I did not see any closeups of Norm Hamlet.
Was Tom playing a Mullins s10 or s12 ?
I wish Sonya Issacs all the best.

There have been many who visit the Opry but none recieve the standing O the Hag got...Hag sounded like he can still take on the so called big boys...Looks like I'll add another CD to the collection opps, two. Dwight Yokums has a pretty good one out too.Great Opry show except when they showed the keyboard during one of TW's rides...wonder if they ever thought of asking the Hag to be a member?

Saturday night was indeed a wonderful opportunity and first experience for me to begin handing down some musical love that I received as a kid back in the late 60's ---
We have a 3-week old new baby boy, Chase Hilton, and I sat right in front of the TV with him in my lap for Hag's session on the opry - his eyes were wide and I sure hope ears were clear too!!!
Cheers for another generation to carry the flag that is the music of Mr Merle Haggard! |

Oops! I was a little vague on why Merle did Lullaby…
It was discussed on Opry Backstage and if you’ve seen the video you may have noticed the song is a tribute to “Emmett Haggard”. As Merle explained, Emmett was the unborn child they recently lost due to problems about 4 months into the pregnancy. His wife, Therese, had requested that Merle write a song and help her (them) bring closure to that sad life event. I noticed also that Theresa is listed as co-writer. All of this, plus the fact that Theresa was with him made that tune an obvious choice.
Neil, my son used to think the stereo was called a “Merle” when he was a toddler. I’d put the Hag on and point to the stereo and say “Merle”. A little later on, my son walked into his grandma’s house, spotted the stereo and did the same. Well, we all roared, and I of course “wondered” allowed where he’d gotten that idea. It was a much more joyous occasion than the first time he said the F-word.

Who was steeling for Chad Brock? I only caught a half second glimpse but the steel player looked like Herby Wallace. Anyone know for sure?

As Jon Light said, above (and he's usually right) that was Tom Mortensen. He posted his website

a while ago and I recognized him from his pics there. |
