Today's Salon has possibly the most objective article I've read about the subject. It's well worth a look, no matter what your feelings.

And don't blame me; I didn't make up the title Winking

Jackson has Balls!. I said it back when he did the George Jones song on TV and I'll say it now.

I wonder if it ever occured to the industry in Nashville that the reason the Nashville product sales are down is because they have abandoned "country".

I went to the Salon Web site, read the article and posted a letter to the editor, voicing my support for Alan Jackson and my contempt for Mark Wright and his ilk.
Cheers,
Alan Shank

Good for Alan and all true,but wasn't it a duck under the hat when George Straight said he recorded the song for a joke on tonights CMA awards. .Alan took the time to honor the writers. Bail out George but you don't sound anything but Country. Did all notice the reception the Audience gave them when they won the Award for Duet.

I also sent a letter to the editor agreeing with Alan Jackson. What is called country today ain't country in my book. What kills me is when these same people say they cut their teeth on Hag and Jones, and then do stuff that has nothing to do with that style of music. DUH!

You tell 'em Allen & you too Smiley!!!!!!
They(Nash Exec's) just keep trying to tell all of us what is now "country" but they are all still out behind the barn lookin' for it.
Yes; i know & understand that music must change & evolve but it seems to me it has become like everything else in this old world that big money & big profit has corrupted..I haven't said too much on this forum because of the feelings this subject ALWAYS seems to stir up.I do fully agree with all who have said the "stuff" the play on radio today should not be called country-maybe crossover pop-country or country-rock but just don't call it country!!..Ok i put my flame suit on-come & get me.Sorry if i have offended anyone with these statements but we all have our opinions....Ron

Ron, my wife and I go for a 2 hr. ride every evening to get her out of the house. We listen to 4 country stations, FM & AM, and the music is pure crap. Mostly rock, hard rock and plain S**T, along with music like Perry Como sang years ago. In fact now I appreciate Como's music instead of new?? country.. I might be lucky to tune in the odd US station which plays the odd bit of good country.
The bars in our area employ bands which advertise that they are country groups, but turn out to be strictly rock music. They can't play country requests. Loud and louder.
I have resorted to internet radio like Live365.com. Two nights ago I heard a song, Blue Diamonds, which I have been looking for since 1953. Last night I heard songs played by artists who originally recorded them but never made it except when recorded by other artist. I can listen to Steel & Country music while surfing the net. What a pleasure......Joe

Hello Joe Delaronde;
How are you doing??..Are we both listening to the same radio stations?? I hear the same "stuff" you are getting up your way..I; also am learning to appreciate other forms of music that i never really had gave a listen to before now.When the wife & i take a drive we put in a CD to hear what we want.I have all but given up on radio to hear any "choices" of music-just what everybody else keeps telling me i should like & be listening to..I also like you stumbled across the internet radio show last weekend put on by Bill Nauman & was totally "blowed over" by all the GREAT steel guitar playing that he has featured on his show!!!..I thought that i had just passed on & ended up above!!..I listen to it all the time when i am on the internet..I can't say enought good about his show..For anyone who has'nt tuned this show in while crusin' the web-if you like steel music tune it in & turn it up....Later on...Ron
