That would probably have been the "Ozark Jubilee", which aired from 1955-1960 on ABC. The show was later called "The Country Music Jubilee", and then "Jubilee, USA". The show actually aired from Springfield, Missouri, and was cancelled for two reasons. First, ABC wanted to put boxing in its time slot, and second, Emcee Red Foley had just been indicted for tax fraud. The show was really popular, though, and featured such stars as Webb Pierce, Ray Price, Billy Walker, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Porter Wagoner, Bobby Lord, Wanda Jackson, LeRoy Van Dyke. etc.. The musicians were Hank "Sugarfoot" Garland, Bud Issacs, Lew Childre, and (I think) Tommy Jackson, along with many others. This is the also the show where Brenda Lee was discovered. |
