I consider my English as quite ok and i usually have no problems following the lyrics of a song.
Especially Dolly Partin songs are usually very clear and understadable.

Anyhow, in this song i found a line I don't understand, maybe You folks can help me.

In the second part of the song the 'child' voice sings

'London Bridge is falling down - Daddy's drunk again in town'

Can anybody explain that to me?

If you got any problems with a german song - feel free to ask me

Thanks

Roland

Hi Roland. I don't know if this is what you are looking for but....

"London Bridge is Falling Down" is a sing-songy children's song---picture children holding hands in a circle going round and round--then add that next line and the poignancy is clear--from the children's carefree play to the tragedy of adult concerns.

I don't know Dolly's song but hopefully the cultural reference of that song helps this make sense to you.

Thanks Jon, with that information these lines make sense.
