I saw it.... and was not very impressed with the quality of the band...
Garth seemed to be trying too hard... I thought his singing style was over exaggerated at times.
2nd rate performance...
maybe it's exhaustion... maybe that's why he's retiring.
The audience loved him though...
(This is by no means a flame against Garth)

Yeah, but the 2nd half was well worth it........John Prine, with standup bass
player and guitarist who also played nice dobro and lap steel. JP has a whole nother
bunch of great songs on latest CD.

Mike D. The show was broadcast on my local
PBS station. I forget now if it was a 1, 11/2
or 2 hour show. I recorded it on the night of the broadcast, and watched it with a buddy the next night...we FF'ed right past
Bar, ah Garth. We were having a few, so you
know how time gets both lost and found when
partaking.
But I think it was an hour. That's what I don't like about local PBS.
It's that time of the year for them to go
begging for money, and it seems they hold all
the really great stuff until this time.
Like they'll run Peter, Paul, and Mary all
night long, James Taylor too, but the segments are splotched with 20 minutes of pledging.
They used to run Austin City Limits every week. Not any longer...Masterpiece Theatre?
Prine's show was the 1st time I've seen ACL
on PBS in years.
And Masterpiece Theatre. Shows you where peoples' heads are around here. They'd rather
watch some boring cockneyed mystery, than
great American music. Here's my towel.
Mike...I think W. Houston had another post on JP.
