Back in the 30's/40's/50, Robert Lunn did a version of the Talking Blues on the Opry or on the E T Midnite Jamboree. Does anyone remember the words? www.billchaviers.com

Bill I remember him on the GOO but for the life of me I don't remember any of the lyrics. I think he was "slippin' and slidin' up and down the mantle piece" looking for something, maybe a 'chaw of tobacco or ... Do you remember "Jamup & Honey" and the "Duke of Paduca"? Those were definately the "good ole days".

About 20 years ago I would throw in some of those old talkin' blues in to Cotton Eyed Joe. I "ustacud" (a redneck term) do four or five verses. That's the only one I can remember right now. Kenny, you're right. There was a verse about slippin' up and down the mantle piece. I'll have to think about this for a bit.

Don't remember the song you're referring to, but Earnest Tubb did a blues song in the '40s called "My Baby Still Loves Me" that was positively hilarious...
"I bought her a brand new Cadillac,
for all the world to see.
Then I came home one night,
and she had drove it up a tree!
But my baby still loves me,
yeah my baby still loves me.
Yes, my baby still loves me
in her own peculiar way."
Each verse she does something worse, but he still thinks she loves him! |

Most of us ain't old enough to remember Jamup and Honey or the Duke of Paducah! I don't remember this guy but for some good talkin' blues West Coast style I found a CD by Tex Williams and the Western Caravan which has some really great stuff plus steel by JoaQuin Murphey and a little guitar by Jimmy Bryant here and there.

Jerry, I seem to remember the Tex W. & Archie Campbell's version of The Hot Rod Race was sort of follow-up to the Talking Blues. I will reply to all when I get the verses together. Thanks,& I hope to see everyone in Dallas at "Charlies' Show". www.billchaviers.com
