Are you a performing Hawaiian Steel Guitarist? Let the world know!
Are you a Hawaiian Steel Guitarist or a member of a Hawaiian band that performs in your area? Would you like the world to know about you? The Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association (HSGA) can help you get the word out!
Check it out!
In an effort to promote live Hawaiian steel guitar performances throughout the world, and to make the HSGA website the "place to go" for organizations seeking Hawaiian Steel music, a new web page has been developed for the HSGA (www.hsga.org). This page lists HSGA members who perform for casual functions, parties, clubs, or music festivals. The page is organized by geographical region, lists a brief description of the guitarist or group, and provides contact information.
Current membership in the HSGA is required for listing on this page. Send listings to hsga@lava.net or gbross@umich.edu or by mail to Gerald Ross P.O. Box 3245 Ann Arbor, Michigan 48106.

Good to hear of a new and long needed service to be provided by the HSGAers. Maybe it will spur some action around here, it's been dead in the Waikiki/Honolulu area lately. Inclusion of ALL players/gigs would help even more and probably result in a run of new memberships. How up to date is notification, could a gigs info be submitted and viewed within 24/48 hrs? I am the Hawaiian steel guitarist for the duo my Friend D.B. Harris and I have created...and we are called "The Island Echos"
We are booked solid as soon as he comes back from Europe.....as we've already played gigs....but are really taking off middle summer and there are just Too Many Gigs to be had here in Texas with the great sound of Hawaiian Music.
We are booked solid through the 1st of the year.....so we're fine with promotion...so thanks for the invite...and maybe one day I'll join the organization......

I have been working like crazy with a band in NYC called "The Moonlighters". We play Hawaiian and early jazz. I've been covering the gig on my Stringmaster and it is a real workout for me. I just started on the C6 lap steel stuff last january so I'm still bowling for notes on that sucker but its coming along.

We are booked at very least twice a week for some club, party or wedding.
Its doing great things for my steel playing plus paying down my debt.

I play a mix of old country and Hawaiian music for senior dining sites and adult day care/care facilities. I'm 75 years young and playing 2 to 4 times a week. My Hawaiian repetorie is a bit lacking and I'd like to build on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been fortunate to be playing of late, with MANNY K Fernandez. His beautiful CD of late is entitled "In this Enchanted Place". Sounds of my little ole Rick, I feel, give the CD an authentic sound of old.
They have a web site if anyone is interested. A couple of "sample" tunes are there along with pix and supplemental info'.

| I'll vouch for the Manny K Fernandes cd....it has some lovely songs on it, the type you like to listen to in those quieter moments of a hectic schedule. Ray "Skip" Montee's steel work is super. He captures a nice Hawaiian sound out of his old Rickenbacker, and though he often objects to the comparison, one cannot help but detect a little "byrd" in his touch and tone. |

Honestly, I think it's wonderful that there are musicians perpetuating the art of Hawaiian Steel Guitar and performing traditional Hawaiian music in public.
But I think we are getting off topic here...

listed on the HSGA Performing Artists pages please let me know. This is a free service. All that is required is a current HSGA membership for yourself or anyone in your group.

I Dunno C.C. I just put on the extra weight when I stoped smoking last year. I was saving up to go to Hawaii to the HSGA convention, didn't go, seems like it's a bit of a "Closed Shop" for us Pro European players...
Still stopping smoking WAS a good thing to do.... It's probably extended my life expectancy a little and I'll be around a little longer to annoy those I obviously already annoy.
