The first TV segment for 2000 was a fair lineup. I noticed Stonewall's player on the Black Emmons, Rick Ryan on Lead Guitar, Mike
Johnston and his red Emmons behind Brad Paisley and Tommy White on his Bigsby.
Brad P. looked good in that powder blue sports jacket and the jam session on ME NEITHER was a nice showcase. He seems to be on a good track to be a future opry member.
Nice to see a young singer spending New Year's Eve on the circle of wood.

If you all heard the words of Mr.Fisher (and I use the term loosely)He said the Opry will make changes to move it forward Now I agree there are changes needed. However his statement the opry has always made changes to stay with the times? WHAT changes? A new building?New Instruments?Amplification? yes those changes were made but the music has always been the same.Did anyone notice the faces on the staff band when they had their few minutes of glory, where were the smiles?I have known Leon to be a fun guy, except for the wink from Joe Edwards It looked like a funeral.OK Pete make some changes add new members ,only do it without you head up your A$$,Add members who will honor the appearance quota,Add members who will not worry about their ego's to sing pure Country Music.Nashville will lose busloads of tourist and Pete fisher will be back to selling Cars in New York....IHS

JB... I believe Tommy White plays a Derby, not a Bigsby, which is not even in the same species, steel guitar-wise.
It's easy to mistake the two names with only a split-second camera shot.
Unless of course TW has gone totally retro, and acquired an actual Bigsby. He could certainly play the hell out of it, as we all know. There have been a couple of Bigsby's released on the market lately, astronomically priced, of course. |

I will agree about the terrable accustics at the opry. However some folks including the new steelers have interest in what the big guys are using.

I'm no veteran, but I think I could tell the sound of a Bigsby at 100 yards.

Actually I couldn't claim that--I'm not sure I know the "Bigsby Sound" but I sure do know good sound and both TW and Mike J sounded excellent. I really like Mike's playing. The few times I've heard him he has impressed me a lot. And TW, well no surprises there. |
