Got a party coming up where I need to do Garth's "Low Places." In all the years I've played the thing someone else had the vocal and I didn't pay that much attention to the words. Bits and pcs are all I can conjure up. I would appreciate some help. Thanks.

Ken, there is a sight on the internet where you can get lyrics and chords to various country songs. Check out http://roughstock.com/ . Once you are at their homepage, look for the section titled "Cowpie lyric and chord search".You will see it on the left hand side of the homepage.Click on it. Then just click on the letter for the artist's last name, and a list of artists will show up. Click on the artist you want, then a list of that artist's songs will show up. Click on the song you want and that's it. I don't know if that particular song is there, but I'm sure it is. Hope this helps. OK, this is the reflective side of a rant
I've had to play that tune too. It's ok, I guess, but every time I hear a song with a lyric like that, I think "Cheap Shot... no brainer commercialism..." Maybe that's harsh, but, really....
It's so formulaic. Rebellious indignation is a big seller these days. I guess Garth can't really cash in on the Chick Angst trend a la Alanis Morrisette, (unless he he starts recording as Christine Gaines, I suppose) So....
"Ruined your black tie affair" Yeah. Right. Black Tie Affairs are so common these days. We all come up against that, don't we..
Shades of "Columbo" !
Of course the whole tune was posthumously capped with an extra verse containing the vital advice "You can kiss my @ss", to further advance it's place amongst modern popular music, and it's habit of being intimidating, confrontational (Would those rap singers PLEASE quit sticking their fingers in my face?! What's up with that?)
and otherwise pandering to the basest of human aggressions. I can see the seething masses with their bic lighters in the air already.
I'm not saying the music is poorly executed or anything, it's not. And it's not that song alone. I just find the whole direction an insult to my intelligence, and I can't figure out what everone is so ticked off about. Am I the only person that feels that way?

Why not do Pinkard & Bowdens version of that song instead? "If Got Friends In Crawl Spaces" Just a thought. |
