Hi Guys,
Has any had any experience with Crafters? What about a guy named Tony Hatton who sells Crafters guitars? He lives close to Nashville, I'm told. I'm thinking about buying a Virginian from him. I think he sells lots of stuff on e-bay...Has anyone had a Virginian, or know anything about them?
Thanks Guys,
John |

John,
I traded up from a Regal RD45 to a Crafters Tennessean. Very happy. Has nice rich tone, really sings. Records well.

Hi, John. I had been wanting to augment my Melobro with a nice wood body reso, I've had a couple of OMI's and an older Hound Dog that didn't blow me away. I just couldn't afford 2500-3K for a new custom job. There happen to be a whole bunch of crafter's floating around Atlanta, very nice workmanship but most of them didn't really slay me volume and tone wise. I did notice the Tennesseans seem to generally have less bark and volume than the Virginians. Then I found a Virginian in a batch of five at music store that just knocked me out, great tone and volume and really nice smooth projection. I did a setup tweez and that helped even more, sanding off the soundwell rim, leveling the spider, reshaping the cone edge. The interior work on any of these could probably use that kind of hand setup, but they seem to be a great value. I think you're talking about Tony who sells as combatblade on ebay, I've had really good conversations with him and I think he could set you up well.

Yes, I have the TutTaylor Signature model of the Virginian and am playing everyFriday and Saturday nights at a local Opry. Has a clean evenly balanced sound. Not too bassy, but with clear treble which makes it sound great on the mike. I use a AKG C1000 condensor mike. Have absolutly NO complaints about it. Just recently did some recording with it and it has that 'dobro' sound. I bought mine from Harry West in North Carolina. Suggest you get a new one that no one has tinkered with. Shop around for a good price.

Jim,
I bought my new Virginian, and I love it. Even though I live in Statesville, NC, where Harry West and his wife have their store, and I'm in there once or twice a week, he was just a little too high for me. He is quite a personality, and has the biggest collection of bluegrass instruments in the state. I'm satisfied that Crafters is as good as you can get for the money.
Good luck, and thanks for your reply.
