I'm posting this for Tommy Spurlock. Below is his description of the guitar and contact info.
Hello fellow steel guitar lovers, Tommy Spurlock here. Thanks for all the nice things you guys have said about me over the years.
I have moved to Spicewood, TX, near Austin. I have built a studio and recorded an album with my old friend Sneaky Pete Kleinow. After working with Pete, on some 10 records, I decided to try my hand at his unique Fender 400 steel set-up. I've tried to perfect every detail: tuning, effects, etc. I've just finished my second Fender 400 conversion,( with instead of cables, rods) to the “Sneaky” set up. It's addictive.
Since I converted to Fender, I am selling my Sho-Bud Super Pro steel.
This is my wonderful, hit-making instrument, which you might have heard on my work with Highway 101 (“Somewhere Tonight” and others), Suzy Boggus (“Someday Soon”), and John Michael Montgomery (“Life's a Dance”). I've also used it on sessions with Leon Russell, Roseanne Cash, George Jones, Robert Earl Keen, Rodney Crowell, Emmylou Harris, The Newsboys, The Band, Jim Lauderdale, David Ball and Delbert McClinton. On the road, you might have seen this Sho-Bud sitting directly in front of me on stages with Toby Keith, Shania Twain, Rodney Crowell, Suzy Boggus, Leon Russell etc. For a complete listing see my website www.tommyspurlock.com.
Please help me and my estranged family by making a generous offer on this history- making, money-making Sho-Bud Super Pro Steel. It has the total modification from Duane Mars, including new paint, and the E9 pickup was given to me in the 70s by Ralph Mooney (who told me that Shot Jackson wrapped it in some unique way). Always sounded pretty good!
I welcome your bids on the Sho-Bud. You can reach me by email at chiva@texasdata.net or by phone at 512-663-7996.
I can also convert a Fender 400 for you. Email or call for details.

That is so nice of Farris to forgive. In fact, your whole Q&A with the seller seemed like a marketing tool in disguise. Were you helping him to sell it, or did you have other motives? If he thought that the guitar was a money making Son of a Bitch, I want to see the financial statements, and consider the possibility of an investment group buying it. Here is a bump for a great guitar! |

It might well take a group to buy it if he still wants what he told me he wanted for it a couple of months ago....Nice, but NOT cheap....James |

I certainly think Tommy's guitar is a good one, but Money-Making-Son-Of-A-Bitchiness in the past is no guarantee of the same type of Bitchiness in the future.
Anyway, that geetar is a Man Dogg, it ain't no Bee-yatch.

The seller has to apologize to somebody on his 'for sale' post?
Yet another offer hijacked. If you wouldn't buy it for a nickel, maybe you shouldn't post.
I'd ask for a second opinion and get the follow-up posts deleted.
Bump for an historic instrument. This kind of provenance is rare. [This message was edited by Charlie McDonald on 20 February 2006 at 06:37 AM.] |
