For sale: 8-string Supro steel with three telescoping legs. $475.00 plus shipping.
Black and white, art deco motif. Probably built in the early sixties, but I don't really know. Good apprearance and in good working order. A little noise in the pots as they are turned. Volume and tone controls.
Very similar to the guitar shown in the George Rout photo on page 125 of Lorene Ruymar's book, "The Hawaiian Steel Guitar."
Also very similar to the six-string sister shown on the cover of Tommy White's video, "Hot Licks and Cool Tips for E9."
I am including an old Whaley Royce bar that was in the case when I bought the guitar. (Picture in Ruymar book on page 147.) It is a thin, retangular bar with a geometric pattern on the grip and one round edge. The chrome is significantly worn off the center of the round edge.
There is some discoloration on the legs and the guitar is not perfect, but I believe it is in good shape for its age. I played it happily until I got my pedal steel. Since then it has been in the closet, which is why I am selling it.
There is some rust around the pick-up, but that is covered by a plastic cover. There is a small chip off of one corner of the nut, but you would only notice it on close inspection. I cannot find a serial number on the instrument.
The case is in somewhat rough condition; structurally sound, with neatly-applied duct tape on both ends.
There is a little yellow bag included that says "Accessories." Presumably, it came with the guitar.
I am computer-challenged, so we will have to settle the sale by check or cashier's check. I will send you the guitar on a 48-hour approval as soon as your check clears.
That is all I can think of to tell you, but I will be happy to answer questions, and I will try to e-mail digital photos to interested parties.
Thank you for your consideration.
