Bill Mc-I have a few questions please-Can you tell more about the Regal Dobro-possibly which model number and is it round or square neck? Also is the D-60 round or square neck? Do the instruments all have cases? and what is a George Boards lap steel? Is the Gretsch lap steel the plain black or the sparkle finish-Thanks-PW [This message was edited by PAUL WARNIK on 07 July 2005 at 07:01 PM.] |

All the Dobro's are square necks. The regal was set up by Junior Barber. There is no model number on the regal. All have cases, except the Georgeboards and Gretsch which have gig bags. The Rick case is original. The gretch is a sunburst finish. GeorgeBoards is a Lap Steel maker. Do a search on the forum and you will get all the info you need on GeorgeBoards. The buyer pays for shipping unless I sell in the next 24 hours in which case I will pay 1/2 the shipping. [This message was edited by Bill McCloskey on 07 July 2005 at 07:10 PM.] |

Bill-I am interested in your deal but need to have more info on the Regal-Please send pics and answer-I'm guessing the Regal is a wood body? Does it have "f" holes or screen holes? Is there a soundwell? how about the kind of wood and color of the body?-Is the body standard size or does it have those smallish upper bouts?-How about the coverplate? Standard or poinsetta? I'm not trying to be a PITA it's just that what the Regal actually is determines whether The DEAL OF THE CENTURY is worth buying for me Thanks-PW |

Pictures sent Paul
Let's see: wood body, screen hole, (after doing some research this has the "fan" design not poinsetta as I thought earlier), upper bout smaller than lower bout but not overly so - it seems standard size to me but you should be able to determine from photos, has a very unique bluesy tone, set up by Junior Barber, I purchased at McCabe's in Saratoga last year. I'm not sure if there is a sound well or not, spider cone.
I have no idea what kind of wood. It's black. This is the standard issue Regals that were made in the 30's for the Dobro company.I bought it strictly for the tone which is amazing. If you've heard Junior Barber's recordings it sounds like the homemade dobro he uses when he is looking for a bluesy sound. This is not that guitar but sounds like it so that you know what kind of tone it has.
This also has a "pat pend" stamp on the cover plate just below the 12 oclock screw hole. This would date it at pre-1932 according to the research I've been able to dig up, as I believe a patent number was stamped after that date.
hmmm.. maybe this is a better deal than I originally thought! [This message was edited by Bill McCloskey on 08 July 2005 at 01:20 PM.] |
