I got the following email after I replied to an ad on the forum. I wasn't even the seller. I gotta think this is a scam. Do they use the word "advert" in Oklahoma? Do they say "Hope to read from you soon"?
This is what I got:
Hello,
I am Michael taylor,a manager at Hilton Agency (an insurance firm )in Roland,Oklahoma.I am interested in your advert (Gibson EH-275)and would love to know if this is still available for sale. Please,if available i will like to know the price and more details about it,send pics if available.Hope to read from you soon.
Thanks,
Michael taylor

Copy the headers in your e-mail and mail them to Bobby D Hunter.Maybe he can tell you where it came from and if the man is a scammer or not.

I got basically the same email in response to my Cougar I listed. I found out that there is a company in Roland, Okla. by that name. I am having a friend that lives there check on it. He is gonna go by and ask to speak to this Michael. Bet he don't find one though.

I got it too, T.C.
Thing is I'd really like to keep my e-mail on here for my friends at SGF, but when stuff like this starts happening I end up pulling it off of here for awhile.
What's funny is this happened after I asked b0b to close my thread since I needed to keep the Derb for now.
Here's the bubbahead's e-mail. Bye bye.

I notice that anyone can see a members e-mail by clicking on the link in their post. Is there an issue to making the members e-mail addresses private?
IMHO, it would be a good idea to have the e-mail address private, since any non-forum viewer can see our real names and city/state.
If this is a FAQ I'm sorry. I searched and couldn't find it.

Charlie, what you do is click "Your profile", submit your user name & password, then on the next page you can choose to have your e-mail address shown or not shown like I've decided to do for awhile. |

Rex,
I just did that, but if I'm correct about what it does, then forum members can't see my e-mail address either.
I want to get e-mail from forum members, but not from scammers, e-mail harvesters, male enhancement drug purveyors and other non-forum lowlifes.

Hey guys, I just got off the phone with Mr. J. Roberts, The owner of the Hilton agency in Roland, Ok. which is about 7 miles from me and he told me there is no one by that name at his agency...just another dummy trying to make a quick buck.. Don't take any wooden nickles and if you bite the coin make sure there are no teeth marks. Ron

Yeah, it's all or nothing, Charlie.
Good thing is you can always put it back up there.
I usually delete it when stuff like this happens. That's about as "moving target" as I care to be. |

This crap is easy to spot.. I get it constantly..
be very afraid of anyone that doesn't give you his home phone#... I usually try to have a few phone conversations with an unknown buyer or seller...
The forum is different.. after seeing a guy post for several years and conversing with many people that know him personally, you usually know he/she is not out to rip you off... I think thats why most stuff sells so quick here... people trust the buyers and sellers... bob |

What if this buyer or seller lives in Europe Bob.That will cost you big-time.How do you solve such a problem?Do you call anyway and face a big phone-bill?
