you have to be careful. I didnt have any trouble on the forum, but I am trying to sell a car over the net and you cant believe jerks that send messages just the same as you are recieving now. I turned most of mine over to the FBI. I dont know if it done any good.

The FBI is highly interested in any such dealings, they have a task force dedicated to this one setup. You get any of these emails call the FBI right away. If you move fast enough they may get caught.

BTW, even though the email messages are identical, they are all from the same operation, which has a number of people working for them.

In case you were wondering, internet fraud is one of the three largest industries in Nigeria.

In case anybody missed my renewed thread on this subject, look here for more info and what you can do to assist the SGF in ridding the boards of these vermin... http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum9/HTML/000950.html

PS: When forwarding scam emails please Forward As An Attachment. Simply copying and pasting the text does no good. I need the invisible headers which are revealed by viewing the source code. Forwarding as an attachment preserves the headers by sending the original message intact.

I don't know about you guys, but if I ever got an email like that I would guess it was some stupid spammer right away. Who the hell talks like that! Give me a break...that entire email is one long sentence. The thing just looks fishy right away.

i tried the FBI on a scam like this earlier this year, they literally were not interested in catching the culprit, I was ready to help, they dont care...

This time I just ignored the obvious scam message...

Don't forward these emails to me. Send them to Bobby D. Hunter at wizardodelasteel@hotmail.com as an attachment. He knows what to do with them, I don't.

They are hitting everyone. I got hit on the sale of a 122.50 item on eBay in which they were the high bidder. They sent me the response worded just like the two of you had above. Using words like "interested in your advert (you fill in the blank)"
Then they wanted to send me a 3500 cashiers check and asked me to send them the balance via Western Union. I reported this to eBay and have not heard back.

I think if everyone who gets one of these messages would just play along and tell the guy to send the check (make up a false address if you want to), he'd eventually use up so much money on printing checks and international postage that he may quit bothing us.

If you use a real address and you get the check, just rip it up, throw it away, and tell the guy you never got it and ask him to send another one -- repeat as necessary til the guy decides to go pound sand.

I got one on my Les Paul SG which is currently on eBay, reads like this:

Hello There I am from US and i want buy this guitar.I need you ship it via DHL to indonesia. How much is
total cost to indonesia.I will pay by credit card only. Please reply me back. Best Regards. CARLOS.

My listing expressly and repeatedly states "Payment will be accepted via PayPal ONLY. Please do not bid if you cannot make payment in a timely fashion using this medium.

PLEASE do not inquire about shipping to non-US locations or to arrange other billing options, I'm telling you now cause it just ain't gonna happen."

You can read my response at the bottom of the listing.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7311813170&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1

They may call it "civilization" but it sure looks like it's "every man for himself"
