I have an opportunity to buy this from the "widow" of a steel player for $1,000.

Like me, she knows nothing about the guitar except that it is a single neck and it is pretty! Other than helping out one of our own, and never owning an Emmons, would this be worth following up on? I'm guessing that it is a PP.

Good condition Nash 400s sell for about $400.

So you get an Emmons for $600.
If it's a decent PP, it might cost a few hundred more to have an expert put it into great shape. Still a bargain.

If it's a student model, not so good.

Gene, if the guitar is not the student model, it is a very good or great buy. The student model does not have a raised neck but just a fretboard mounted to the body and does not have wrap around ends.

Thanks for the input guys. I have no need for another steel or amp, but I was just thinking of the problem my wife will have when I'm gone, leaving a room full of musical gear (none of it junk) that she has no idea of what it is or what it's worth.

I just thought if I could buy it and sell it at a price that I could break even, I would be doing a good thing.

b0b, please close as I have decided not to follow up on this. There is plenty of interest in this guitar without me being involved.
