1973 Shobud Pro2. Double neck, 8 Pedals, 4 levers. Finish looks old, needs a cleaning. $1,250.00, OBO, plus shipping.
Here's the deal, I'm not a pedal steel player, I picked this up at a yard sale with a tool box, tackle box and an amp. To say the least it was a good deal. The Shobud is not in perfect cond., so if you want it pretty you'll need to send it to someone like Ricky Davis.
It works and sounds like a Pedal Steel Guitar, HA. None of the pedals stick. If I don't sell this on the Steel Guitar Forum by Wed. (Aug 11th) of next week I'm putting it on Ebay. If your interested I'll send you photos through email.

Nice steel!
Looks a lot like my 73 Pro II. cept mines a 8&2. Plays great and tone to die for!
These were some of the smoothest playing and sweetest sounding Buds made IMHO. You may want to re-think selling. I would not sell mine at any price!....So come on guys
what do you think? I just orderd a Reso from Paul Beard or I would be bidding on it myself!!Good luck.

Ricky-it's the same color as the one I got from David O-more of the reddish "cordovan" brown than the darker brown that you see on alot of the Professional's-Ol' Mike C calls that "monkey-s__t brown"  |

Mark; since you asked..ha.
I have gotten a fair amount of emails on this guitar; asking questions about it, which I haven't seen the underside so I haven't been able to comment on. As CrowBear illuded to; it would really depend on the condition of the mechanics and there are many variables there. If it is the crossbars with two hole pullers with barrel tuners and single raise single lower fingers(which I assume it is unless someone did a weld on strings 4&5 raise and made it fixed rods with nylon tuning which I've seen done) than that is my favorite mechanism and sounding Sho~bud and highly recommend.
But again, the condition; cleaning of the mechanics is very important to the playability. If it plays super great right now as it is..than the asking price is fair. But if it needs taking apart and a job done on it...which either the buyer would do; or he would send it out..>then your talking hundreds of dollars of work needed....and that would put the guitar up near the 2000.00 mark of worth....and may be a little much for some folks, but may not.
I can give you example; like someone buying Pro II like this for say 800.00 bucks and then sending it away to be totally refirbished or restored for another 800.00 bucks(or more)...then you have a 1600.00 Pro II that anyone would buy for that or a few hundred dollars more(and that has come through my house often). But 1250.00 and 800.00 added to that....then you see what folks might shy away from?? So I'm just throwing this out as info as you asked and I pretty much shoot from the hip.
So if you send me some close up pictures of the changer and underside..I can evalutate it moreso and give a follow up analogy.

Hello, Ricky you are exactly right!! to pay
1200. then have to put 1 to 2 thousand in it. Wind up price of a new guitar. Old Bud
with spider finish,has to be completly striped,complete overhaul.Just to much.

It's kind of a case of "condition, condition, condition," and like Ricky said, how much you got into the guitar, and are you planning on reselling or keeping it.
I have a 1969 custom-built Professional (rack barrel undercarriage) in line at Duane Marrs' for an upgrade. It is a mint condition horn with inlay strips I'd never seen on a Prof., and it's an identical color to an axe I used to have and stupidly let go. So emotion plays a part in this. I got the guitar on eBay for $950, what I considered a pretty darn good price. Fourteen hundred to Duane puts the 'Bud at $2350 my cost. Way too much for resale purposes, though it is an unusual specimen, but I plan on keeping the guitar as a personal player.
In most any field of bidness, how much you've got in an item is more important than what you can possibly get out of it.
There's been a Sho~Bud Professional floating around Buy/Sell periodically that is a Marrs/Nelson rebuild/refinish. I've played the guitar, it's great, and I know how much the owner paid for it. I'm surprised and dismayed that it hasn't sold for what I consider an extremely reasonable price... $2100 last I looked... for an excellent 1971 vintage 'Bud in mint condition.
Oh well, I thought you guys liked those things?

I bought a pro1 last month from carl green,
pretty guitar,sent it right to duane,having it completely redone. I'll have a lots in it,
but it was just what i wanted.can't do this
to resell,got to really want it for a player.
I figure it will be light,and a real guitar
when it is finished.Told Duane to give it the
works.Ilove old sho-bud,lots of them on ebay

Ok, you guys say it's not worth 1200.00. I'm curious how many of you have ever priced the parts in the Guitar. Now I know Duane personally, I don't know Ricky, so I'll give you a shade tree observation.
Don't take my word for what I'm going to say, ask Ricky or Duane with this small observation of the parts in the guitar:
Changer - (original shobud Changer we will be conservative)
$130.00 (each)..................260.00
Keyhead - (Casted Unfinished)
$120.00 (each)..................240.00
Keys - (Grover just for the case)
$60.00 (each)...................120.00
End Plates - (Casted, Finished, tapped)
$180.00 (each)..................180.00
Pedal Board - ..................150.00
Sand Casted Pedals buffed & Polished
$20.00 (each)...................160.00
$1110.00 (so far) and that doesn't include the Body....................
Ok Maple Body Birdseye.........hum, ask Duane or Ricky what they pay for the wood a foot if they had to make body out of that wood. Now consider the fact that you can't legally cover a steel guitar body with
"nitro celular lacquer" which is illegal in most states to use on musical instruments.
Ok, guys I hope you get the drift of this where I'm going.
Mark, if I were you I'd part it out and sell it piece by piece. You'd probably double your investment. Hang on to it if you got in a couple of weeks, I'll buy it for what your asking.
