can someone post some different types of finger rolls to use on some faster bluegrass stuff. I guess I am looking for different fingerings or is there on roll most people use???

Jim, here's a short phrase using a foward roll(Thumb,index,middle). Starting with the index finger, in the key of G. You can use this same type of thing in other G positions, like the 6th fret with the F lever and A pedal.

Thanks Ken. Is there one people use just as a backup lick or faster roll on 4-5-6- a 5 or 7 note roll??

Thanks everyone for your input. Ricky is there a roll you use on strings 3-4-5 or 4-5-6 That you use just as a backup bluegrass
roll (Not nessesarily a lick) just a rythem type roll???

WEll not really Jim.
My backup on bluegrass...would be a chunck type rythum..kinda like:
3.________}Repeat through chord progression
4.___3___3}
5.___3___3}and using higher strings too.
6.___3___3}
7.________}

Ok just thought of another fast roll type thing me and Redd Volkaert do in harmony throughout the progression of a 1;4;1;5;1 solo. So I'll show you my part over the 1 chord and show you the Guitar part(but played on Steel) and you can have your guitar player learn it..ha..it's easy.

My part: (G)3rd fret;and then go to (C)8th fret and do the
same thing; than back to 3rd fret and than up to
(D)10th fret..>same pattern on all frets.
(2nd string L 1/2 tone)

Harmony part:

So that second harmony part is 3 frets up from the first
harmony part; so that second harmony part is at the
6th fret
than 11th fret than back to 6th fret than 13th fret.
