| They have been advertising a documentary Jazz special by Ken Burns. I think the last tune on that ad is Harlem Nocturn. Did Dave Brewbeck write Harlem Nocturn? When I was in the University, my best friend was a sax player. He played Harlem Nocturn all the time. I have been wondering how it would sound on the E9th neck? Does anyone have the tab to this? |

Johnny Cox did an album with Wayne Cox on guitar called Two Of A Kind. Harlem Nocturn is on this album. If you would like me to e-mail you an MP3 of the song I will. Just email me and let me know. I don't think the album is available anymore.

Guitar Player magazine printed tab of Danny Gatton's version of this tune (from the Cruisin' Deuces album) a few years back. If you could find a copy of that (or maybe there's a Cruisin' Deuces transcription book?) it could be a start - and an interesting challenge

Keith, you may remember the T.V. gangster program called "Mike Hammer". (Stacey Keatch? 1980's...)
Harlem Nocturne was the theme song of the show.
It's generally played in two flats. The use of minor chords with major sevenths gives it that nice mysterious flavour.

| I have a video of my friend Ray Byrd,of Merritt Isl. Florida playing "Harlem Nocturne" on an expanded E9 tuning. He is a fine player and it is beautifully done. He had his PedalMaster changed to a 25 inch scale with a keyless setup. Sounds great....al |

I tabbed Harlem Nocturne out in E9th and a copy of it can be found in the PSGA Newsletter March 1998 volume 25 issue #2. And the song was written by Dick Rogers and Earle Hagen.
