I don't have a cut of this Hank Jr song, so I'm trying to go by memory.
Who played steel on it?
Does anyone know the intro and can tab it or just explain the pedal combos and slides?
Thanks

Always liked this intro a lot. There is no credit for the steel player on the album notes. James Burton and Reggie Young are listed for electric guitar. It was recorded in 1979.
These two variations are very close to what Johnny B posted. Both work and sound similar but probably not identical to the recording.

This is what I hear. The first few notes can be played with the A pedal or without. I can't tell since it's all on a single note on the fifth string and the tonality and stretches are two frets apart when you use or don't use the A pedal, and it's too close for me to hear the difference. Maybe someone else can tell. Other notes are a little vague to. It seems easier to hear stuff in modern productions, more clarity and all. Anyway, "L" = 1/2 tone lower. Also, I put Ebb's part in.

I added Ebb's part into my post, except I don't hear the B,C pedal part on fret 1. Also, listen carefully to the double note at the end of the ascending line. That sounds to me like a typical A,B pedal raise, which would have to be at the 10th fret. No?? |

Graham...My webtv won't pull up the sound clip. Wish I had a cut of this song. I haven't tried any of the tab yet. Sounds like alot of good input. Much appreciated.
I'll run a copy of this thread.
Thanks

I like what Jeff added....he found a better note to start the descending run. Ebb's way works except for the BC pedal part on fret 1. I'm looking for a simple way that is easy to play. Our band plays this and I've been looking for a way to play this for a few months. There is an older thread on this

I modified my tab.
