hi everybody,

I have been trying to play the solo in Patty Loveless' Blame it on your heart.

Now, after all those years I would not expect it would be so hard.

Can somebody please help me out here?

Best regards from Holland,

Tom

Thanks Bengt. The audition went well. I played "your" part and it sounded really good. I told the band that I posted a call for help on Internet, and that somebody from Norway actually responded. The band asked me to send their regards.

Isn't technology wonderful?

Tom

Thanks. Glad the audition went well. At first I tried to play it way to difficult in all the wrong positions. After I figured out where the solo ended the rest just came by itself (accidently).
Thanks to B0B, this forum is the BEST.
Everything is possible if we all "push/pull" in the same direction.

I'm in the process of learning this song. Can you help me out on the front part.
Thanks. I've got something but I would like to get it as close as possible.

Thanks again

Steel-intro. I am not 100% sure I got It right. Can someone confirm that this is possible to play at the required tempo.

Bengt,
I wish I could help, but whenever I play this song, I just approximate the beginning. The problem for me is that the recorded mix is so thick and complex, with the steel and lead guitar playing a duet that goes right up to the start of the lyrics, that I just can't cleanly pick out the steel from the rest, and I usually end of playing some steel parts and guitar parts, sometimes both at the same time!!!. Sorry I can't help. Hopefully someone can shed some light. Regards and Happy Holidays, Jeff

Do you refer to bar 1-4, or bar 5-8 of the intro?

Bar 5-8 is all duet between steel and guitar. I can tell you what I play, but I do not know if it is exactly the same. Also depends on what the guitar is playing.

I (still) cannot hear what the steel plays in bar 1-4, if any. Seems to be all guitar (two parts). It is also a good effect if the guitar plays this part with a harmonizer (one octave).

The steel comes in at 00:03:12. Everything before is guitar. It is easier to isolate the steel if you only listen to Left/right speaker at a time. Here is the whole intro.

Time 00:03:12
F#-------------------------------------------------------------------
Eb-----------------------------------------9-------------------------
G#-------------------------------------------------------------------
E -------------------------------9-------9---------------------------
B -----------------------8---9---9~~~9A------9A----------------------
G#-------------------------------------------------------------------
F#-------------------------------------------------------------------
E ---------------------------------------------------9---9R--10R-----
D ---------------------------------------------------------------10--
B -----------------------------------------------9A------------------
1 . 2 . 3 . 4 . 1 . 2 . 3 . 4 .

F#-------------------------------------------------------------------
Eb-------------------------------------------------------------------
G#---------------------------------------11--------------9-----------
E ---------------------------9---10~~11------11--10~~9-------9---6R~~
B -------------------------------------------------------------------
G#---------------------------9---10~~11------11--10~~9-------9---6~~~
F#-------------------------------------------------------------------
E -------11--10--9---------------------------------------------------
D ---11--------------------------------------------------------------
B -------11--10L-9L--------------------------------------------------
1 . 2 . 3 . 4 . 1 . 2 . 3 . 4 .

F#-------------------------------------------------------------------
Eb-------------------------------------------------------------------
G#-------7---------------5--------------(4)~~~~----------------------
E ~~~7R------7R--6R~~5R------5R--3~~~4---------------------------16--
B ----------------------------------------------------------14~16----
G#~~~7-------7---6~~~5-------5---3~~~4----------------------14~16----
F#-------------------------------------------------------------------
E -------------------------------------------------------------------
D -------------------------------------------------------------------
B -------------------------------------------------------------------
1 . 2 . 3 . 4 . 1 . 2 . 3 . 4 .

Not easy to play the first part at the required speed. (He might use B -> Bb instead of the E -> F before the walkdown) Compare with the first posted example.
