Hello,
I don't seem to catch on until the proverbial 2x4 hits me in the head. In both Mel Bay Steel courses by Scotty, he talks about playing Western Swing by just holding the E (4&8 - 1/2). However I never put 2 and 2 together until I started transposing the Surf Medley posted earlier.
Correct me if I'm mistaken but the key is this:
Add one to the Fret. Fret 0 becomes 1, so the open tuning is as follows
Note C6 E9 (Fret 1)
E 1 4E
C 2 5
A 3 6
G 4 7
E 5 8E
C 6 10
I'll post up the Surf Medley as soon as I can get it finished.
Looking at the E9 note chart futher. Strings 1,2, and 3 are also part of the C6th chord and could be used in songs derived from Lap Steel.
