Together Again" The original recording Tabbed

I tabbed the song out in C#, just like the way Tom Brumley played it at that time. Now Tom and myself both lower our 5th string a half tone; so these days the 5th string note on the 2nd fret goes down chromatic; and you can do it with the knee lever or moving the bar back a half step. There have been alot of twist and turns added to that solo through the years; and Peggy was the closest I've seen; but still there was a variation in her sound file. I couldn't read your tab Peg; because it got jumbled up somehow. Anyways; to be so bold and over confident like I get sometime; Tom Brumley was my neighbor and teacher in the early '80s and showed me exactly how he played it at the time; but I did have to go back and listen to the recording to freshin' my memory; cause I'm guilty of variation too. But here it is:

Hi Ricky! Did you know that Brumley tuned his 9th neck to Eflat open for string breakage reasons? also he cut Together Again with a Fender 1000? Bucks band tuned all Instruments to Eflat open! Your Friend Al Udeen

Hey Al; good to see you over here in this area. I told Dale howdy for you as I was talkin' to him, while reading your post; ain't these things great. Anyways; yeah Tom hated his sound then; but I thought that guitar sounded great. Come to think of it; Tom never likes his sound; and I never know why; he is so hard on hisself; but that's what makes him so perfect in our eyes. So when are you gunna grace us with some pure steel tab knowledge. If you haven't figured this posting the tab thing yet or don't want to; no prob. But if you need help; ask and I will send you details on how to write and post it on here. I would love to learn some Al Udeen licks.

Yep, found what I was missing in your
tab; sorry to put you to so much trouble
but as explained earlier, it's really
been eatin' at me.

It's the part in your first line of
tab that shows the 7~a.

Also, later, the drop to the first fret
which I hadn't found correctly by myself and
for which I spent two days making my new
vertical knee. I like it better the way
Tom played it originally but it's a whole
lot easier with the lever and of course
I just may find some other uses for it.

i have always gone from fret 9 to 8 with no pedals

No prob. I always try and listen the the highest note in a lick or phrase; and that will usually tell me the position for the other notes. Just a little "Food For Thought"

That lever that drops the 5th string B is handy for Together again, but it is really handy for a 7th (or 9th) sound, 2 frets down from open.

Another way to look at it- it is flatting the V of the open chord, which gives you a cool II9 chord, just like the pedal 5 on C6.

And with pedals down, it flats the third- so it is a nice way to go major to minor (of course, you could just as well slide up 1 fret, come off the pedals, and push the D lever (lowering E's) for the same effect.

I know it's a bar slant, but I find it much smoother for me and my guitar than jumping the 3 frets and letting off the pedals, which I can never seem to do fluidly. Anybody else do it this way?

Hey Chris; that is cool. I do the same thing pal; except I lower my 5th string a half tone; and you can get the same voicing at that 6th fret, using it.

The Fender's a loveable ole' curmudgeon, still having fun with it, nothing else gets that sound...except maybe a REALLY old Sho-Bud...hmmm. Nah, I'd better not, the wife is already mad at me for having too much junk! We can never win can we?
