I was in a throwback coffee house last night that was circa 1967 all over again. They, of course, protested war et al, and I thought they would start snapping their fingers after each song!
A guitarist pulled out a '58 Fender single 6 string with one white pickup. It had all the frets numbered so I think it was a Champ. His tuning was (low to high) D G D G B D. He called it open G tuning. What is this called? It is a good tesatament when an instrument is used in many different styles. This one was predictably morose, subdued, and oh so introspective! But a crying steel filled their bill. Thanks form a newbie

| Paul, it is called Open G or Taro Patch. It was one of the early Hawaiian tunings until it got bumped up to High G or A Dobro tuning(AC#EAC#E). Johnny Winter plays awesome bottle neck with Open G, as do alot of blues and rock players. |

Thanks, Jesse. Tarot would certainly fit this venue's "vibe".
Willow is the name of the group. They played at the (gulp) Mr. Spots Chai House. Yes, Mr. Spots is the kitty-cat-pseudonym-theme of the place!
