Gentlemen:
I think I am ready to begin the hunt for a square neck National Tricone. Looking for a player, not a museum piece. I have been reading Brozman's book. Fascinating history.

For a reference point, what is the street price for a new square neck?

According to National Reso-Phonic's web site,
Quote:
All of our single cone and tricone guitars can be produced with a squareneck at no additional charge. The only exceptions are the single cone ResoLectric, ResoLectric Jr. and Radio-Tone Bendaway. The squareneck features a lap-style, flat fretboard, inlaid ivoroid frets, a slotted headstock and three-on-a-plate tuners. Our squarenecks are made of different varieties of wood, depending on the type of neck wood that is customary for each particular guitar body.

Elderly Instruments in Lansing, MI lists prices for new National tricones ranging from $1600-5000 USD depending on the model.

Ron,
Hold-out until you can find an old one, they're far superior to the new ones.
I've seen them recently in the $2K to $3K range (for a style 1).
