Topic: Question for Sierra lap steel owners |

I'm considering upgrading my lap steel to Sierra. However, before I do anything, I need to know what the string spacing and the scale length is.
Jerry Byrd says that if you want to make slants accurately the string spacing should be 3/8" and the scale length 22.5". The bar should be 2 3/4" long and 3/4" in diameter. This is exactly what I'm using now and it seems to work for me.

| Hi there, Mr. Breeze- the Scale length on my trusty Sierra #003 is 24 1/4", the string spacing right at 7/16". I think most or all Sierra Lap owners will agree that slants are smooth and easy, even low on the neck, and that more than anything the tone and sustain are truly superb. One of the best sounding steels I've ever heard. A bit heavy, but playability and tone will never disappoint you! |

I was under the impression that the Sierra was a 3/8" spacing, at least that is what I have heard all along.
