I was in a music store yesterday looking for an acoustic guitar for a Xmas present when I saw this cool looking square neck resonator Dobro type guitar. I had a regular steel bar and picks with me so I sat down to try it out and the dang thing kicks major league butt!! The brand name is Flinthill. I'd never heard of this brand before but I bought it as it was only $249.00 with a hardshell case. It looks like a Regal with a different name logo. I loved the way it sounded and will probably start using it in some of my acoustic folk & bluegrass gigs. Has anyone heard of these before and was that a good price? Thanks, JH

As far as I'm aware, it IS a Regal with a different logo ... don't know what the story behind that is... Sounds like a very good price, too... most of the prices I've seen have been in the $300-$500 range.
I've tried a few briefly, and they sounded very good to me. There was one in the Folk Center (? - think that's the name) in Claremont CA last year, next to a Dobro (R), and to *my* ears the Flinthill had a much better, fuller sound.
Congratulations!
Nick

Sounds like an incredible price considering that a hardshell case came with it.

I bought a Flinthill square neck from Bobbe Seymour's shop in Hendersonville.
A very good value, super sound at a reasonable price. i was impressed enough to purchase a Flinthill round neck as well.

That was a very good price.
A couple of years ago, I bought a Flinthill from Paul Beard.
The guitar was $300 and with the Beard Modifications and Case, the price was close to $500 when all the dust settled.

A lot of folks have Paul Beard do setup and mods to those Flinthills and report a huge improvememnt, mostly along the order of new (spun) cone, nut, and bridge saddles- you could also get his fine setup video and do it yourself and have a great inexpensive axe. There have been some good threads about that on Jerry Douglas' website- http://www.jerrydouglas.com/bb_threads.cfm?Title=&Age=30
Have Fun!

I sell the Regal dobros and the same folks that distribute them here in the US also distrubute the Flinthill guitars. So I imagine they are made by the same people in the same factory.

The Regals,Flinthills, and(I think?)the Johnsons are all made by Samick. Definately consider the Quarterman cone and saddle upgrade. I did it on my Regal and it made quite an improvement. Also $249.w\hardcase is an excellent price!

Has anyone tried a Copperhead squareneck ?
I recently had the chance to pick one that my nephew purchased. It has a very mello tone and was a beautiful instrument.
