I saw Billy play many guitars through a variety of amps. If he was following another steel player on stage, he just plugged in and started playing. I think it was all in his great vibrato and his right hand blocking. You know Billy had this glove with a bar attached and he told me that it ticked him off because iy was impossible for him to do a reverse slant. If I was a guy with no left hand and could play like him I sure wouldn't worry about reverse slants. Great man and great player. CC |

For those who do not have it, the 70s video
'Hawaiian Rainbow' has fabulous live footage of Billy with Genoa Keawe. It's just a few songs but the camera work will knock you out and the music is the best! The rest is a montage of music and dance, you'll dig it. It's out on DVD now and can be found on ebay under Hawaiian music(and I'm not the seller). Enjoy!

I just watched the clip. I'm no good at identifying amps, but it looks like it might be a cube amp, like a Roland. |

I get the impression that BHL played with a pretty light bar (relative to, say, the JB Dunlop) and pressed real hard on the strings.
