Indeed, yesterday(Wed.) was the kind of day 3 steel minded semi young men in Honolulu wish would happen more often(Jeff, it was Derrick, Bobby and myself). Here's the tale which elicits a few Qs&As. After tracking down the rumoured antiques store in Kailua town, we were offered a 1947(?) long scale, solid neck Rick fry pan in fine structural shape w/sm. pu, w/bracket, open back, added vol. knob on left top, gawdawful gold srayed over 95% with a little of the original gold wash still at the bridge section that has nicely bronzed, along with a few casting pits on the back of the neck. It also has refector tape for fret markers at the wrong frets(!) and a VERY nice full sound. The original case has B. Davis scrawled on the top in reddish paint. It was said to have belonged to Hawaii's great pianist Richard Kaui. The leading questions would be, did Mr. Kaui play steel, does anybody recognize this guitars desciption, is the name B. Davis known? We somewhat remember seeing the name on some older Hawaiian LPs, and I was thinking of Barney Davis of Leeteg fame, but that's a long shot, but who knows. It didn't come cheap, but at least it came home. Any thots on this sweet steels pedigree?

I have a Bob Davis LP titled "Easy Hulas". Bob is the lead singer with Eddie Pang on steel. Maybe he's your "B. Davis" ?
