What kind of preamp are you using for this pickup?

I have a Gibson F60 squareneck Dobro. I'd been using a pickup that came with a Liberty reso I used to have. It was a pretty clunky sounding pickup, so I had Beard install a Feather for me. This pickup is significantly quieter, and I find I have to crank the gain all the way on my SansAmp Acoustic DI (active). Sometimes I'm running into a SS Silvertone amp, sometimes direct to PA (if I'm playing in a quieter situation). Is this the wrong set up to use? Do you use a more powerful preamp with your Feather?

Chris...

My experience is with the original McIntyre, which I use with the Fishman "Blender".

Tons of gain. Way more than I'd ever need.

You might check into the RESOGUIT email list where there is periodic discussion of P/U's.

Sub instructions on www.resoguit.com . Hope this helps.

Cheers,

hp

Chris, those Feathers are OK as far as tone, but they have very little gain. You're gonna need a preamp, like the Fishman. Then you'll have something. I've got the old McIntyre in my guitar, and I still use the preamp, then to my Crate CA-60. Works real good for the acoustic regular flat-top non-resophonic guitar too.

The LR Baggs has bucket loads of gain, great EQ, 1/4" and XLR outs, and will run off phantom power. Great sounding. I use it for the older McIntyre pickups and various pickups on mandolin, guitar, etc.
