I was wondering how many dobroists have had the opportunity to try the new Fishman/Beard resophonic pickup system? If so, what are your thoughts? Good points, bad points? Is it powerful enough? Does it need a lot of EQ to get a natural sound? Can it get a natural sound? LOL. How does it compare with the old McIntyre? The New McIntyre Feather? I want to put one in my F60 Dobro, but before I spend the cash, I want to be sure that it is better than what I already have, or at least equal, since the old McIntyre's are getting hard to find.
Thanks, Michael T.
Sorry I spelled Resophonic wrong in the title. I tried to fix it but it wouldn't let me go back. I really need to go to bed, LOL

I have one in my reso. It absolutely reproduces the real sound of whatever cone it is attached to. Low feedback. $85.00. They got it right this time. I am using mine with a Peavey Ecoustic 112 with a feed back elimintor that is built into the amp. A notch filter. Outstanding natural results. Kevin Maul has also put one in his reso. Kevin,
That was the passive pickup? Anyone use the active yet? |

I put a Fishman Reso piezo (passive) in my 8 string Benoit. It attaches to the peak of the cone where the bridge screw goes thru.
I like the sound. It is not as good as a great mic/preamp set up, but it is good. Great for tuning. The cost is low enough to mount it and try it. IF you don't like it, you have a great way to reach your tuner.
I think it is good for sound reinforcement, where the instrument can be heard on its own and the pickup adds to the sound in the room. It will feed back at close range. I use a Fender Acoustisonic Pro Amp and it has notch filters that you can adjust to kill the feedback. Then you can EQ add reverb.
For a few "rides" in a band situation, use the pickup.
If the instrument is a major feature of the act, use a good mic and preamp.

I put one on my McKenna square neck. I have the passive model and get plenty of output. Seems to produce a very usable tone through the right amp. I use it with a mike. Paul Beard was great about giving me some advice on the phone when I had questions. |
