That "Keoki" fellow, is one silver tongued devil!! I wish I could understand half of what he just said, oh well. I have enough trouble speaking English, so I'm not about to mess with such a beautiful language as yours.
WELCOME to the FORUM! What took you so long to join? I'd have sent you the $5.00, just to have you on line here with the rest of us........ This is one fine source of information/facts about the steel guitar and all who plays them. You'll enjoy and will benefit many times over and far in excess of the small enrollment fee.
I'm honored that you mentioned my name in such fine company as those so listed. I'm
not really worthy of such recognition, but it is wonderful to be recognized and if any of my posts/comments were a motivating factor in your joining the Forum, then I'm glad I was here.
A young Hawaiian fellow in Kaaawa, Hi., just sent me a great CD by "Bobby Ingano". How do you like him?
And.....how does that little Rick sound? Does your guitar have strings thro' the body or does it have the metal end plate for the strings? What have you done about the cracked "plastic plates"? Still attached with a bunch of Oklahoma chrome?
Keep us all posted.....ask all the questions you like.......email any personality that you'd like to have for a pen pal........and stay active!

My wife and I had the pleasure to see Bobby in '99 at the Waikiki HSGA bash. Your anecdote figures ... true humility, sincerity and "just into the instrument" and its playing. Wish I had a buddy like him around here.

OK, since Ray is not bi-lingual, ('nor am I for that matter), here it is, all in English. I met Bobby back in 1991, (I think), when I was put in charge of organizing the HSGA Kapiolani Park all day steel guitar bash. I phoned some 40 steel guitarists in and around Honolulu, some of them hadn't touch their steel in years. I asked each to come out and play 3 songs. The response was some 26 old timers showed up and what a bash it was ...from 9:30 through to 4:30 !
What has this to do with Bobby ? Well, a few days earlier Jerry held his Ho'olaulea at the Ala Wai Golf course club house. We were amongst the first in line to get in. As my wife and I stood by the closed entry door, I heard someone behind me say something which included the name "Bobby". I took a chance..I said to this chap, "Would you happen to be Bobby Ingano?" That big grin came across his face and he acknowledged indeed, it was him. I had been searching for him, and there he was! I immediatly conscripted him into the all-day bash on Saturday. He showed up, I backed him and he blew the audience (and me) away!!! Wow ! Talk about the Rogers clan... Bobby is "Feets" reincarnated. Such a beautiful guy also. Next time you're on the Big Island, Let me know and we can get together and play pau hana fri.....I'm Down in Ka'u but get up to Kohala a bit and have a small 8 track studio here in Ka'u so we get lots of jams happenning....

Welcome Jeff,
I am also a relatively new member although I surfed the forum for a few years. Your mentors of Hawaiian Steel Guitar Players are impressive. Dick McIntire, Andy Iona, Bobby Nichols, Sol Ho'opi'i, Tommy Castro and others should also be included --as the saying goes "They're All Good Hawaiian Names". Bobby Ingano is certainly a gentleman, I also met him in 1991 at the Kapiolani Park HSGA Steel Program. Both the HSGA and the AISGC have had Bobby as their Guest Steel Player two or three times -- other times he would come on his own as he enjoys the mainland camraderie. His style is sweet and he is an up and coming Steel Performer in Hawaii, if not already there. The next time you see him Jeff say "Aloha Bobby" for me.
