I have an old Gibson double seven that I'm going to restore. It's black with huge pearl block markers. The pickups are Charlie C.'s with adjustable polepieces, something Ive never seen before. I'm assuming it's a late 30's model. Does anyone have any information on these guitars?
Thanks, John Billings

John....
Gibson Console Grande....what great guitars.
I have a double neck 8 string sunburst from the early 1950s, and I understand that they made them in 6, 7, and 8 string configurations. The pearl markers sound interesting, as mine are painted. How about posting a picture, or sending one as a jpeg to me. I love the sound of my old Gibson, and I know you will love yours too. The Console Grande was the "top of the line", and next was called a Consolette just a little plainer by not having the binding around the body inlaid and such things as that. The Consolettes also were typically finished as a blonde, resembling the later Korina wooden guitars produced by Gibson. Enjoy.

Billy, thanks for the info. I'm familiar with the 50's models, but this one is a lot older. I think it's late 30's. It needs quite a bit of work, but it;s so cool, that I gotta do it! The Charlie Christian pickups are very interesting. I've never seen any with adjustable pole pieces before. I'm waiting for my buddy to bring my camera back. Gonna be at least a week.
