Making a lap steel is fun. I've made a bunch. Feel free to email me. I'll answer any questions that I may know the answer to. You will probably get a bunch of info from the folks here.

| Dude,if you've got the propper tools for the job and plenty of patience,knock your self out.I personaly would have been better off buying a nice vintage Supro or Rick. I've built a six string and an eight string, with little more than a skillsaw and a drill.They both work,but it's not the same,if you know what I mean. GOOD LUCK |

Yeah go for it.
It's sort of like tying your own flies. You can buy the same old patterns that everone else uses and catch fish. But if you make your own and catch a fish - it's special, and you might catch bigger ones! I don't think I'd tackle (pun intended) building my own reel or line, but rods and flys etc. - sure. Just depends how far you want to challenge your self, and invest in tools etc.

| Building your own and/or rebuilding a "factory job" is part of the 'bonding process'. Unless it's a 'historical' instrument and not in need of a rebuild, the first thing I do, after playing it a bit, is take it apart. |
